SUSTAINABLE FLORISTRY: A DIFFERENT APPROACH

We believe our job, as florist, is to work with nature. Every day at the studio we celebrate the beautiful gifts that nature has to offer and protecting it is important. However, traditionally the flower industry is more of an exploiter, rather than a steward of these gifts.

In an industry full of waste, sustainable floristry supports the environmental, social, and economic requirements of present and future generations. It’s better for the planet, and when done correctly, it’s better for the florist, the flowers, and our customers too.

Eventful Blooms is embracing this entirely new approach to floral design. We make sustainable floral design a priority–utilizing the Five R’s principle of sustainability.

We are a no-foam florist. Recent scientific studies have found that floral foam is harmful to the environment. It breaks down into microplastics that can contaminate water supplies and hurt aquatic life. In addition, the dust created by the dry foam can be harmful if ingested. Every installation and bouquet is created using foam-free mechanics. We find the flowers last longer without the foam too!

Each month we release a curated collection of offerings. This allows us to closely manage our fresh-cut flower inventory daily. These collections are thoughtfully designed using seasonal varieties and flowers that can be used in other ways. We cut down on energy costs by eliminating the need for a cooler, as well.

Speaking of flowers being used in other ways, we house dry many of our extra flowers to use for other things. For example, we sell flower confetti for weddings made from dried leaves, petals, or flowers. We also sell bunches of dried flowers and use dried stems in installations or window displays. Be on the lookout for workshops using dried flowers.

When you order from Eventful Blooms, you are likely going to get flowers in a thrifted or vintage container. We also source thrifted containers for weddings and special events as needed. If you go for a wrapped bouquet order instead, it will come in 100% recyclable packaging, as does all of our house-made projects.

The celebration of nature is at the heart of Eventful Blooms Studio. Sustainable floristry allows us to work with it and help protect it. Join us on this journey!

Cheers!
